Taxpayers Revolt
Posted: February 27th, 2009 | Author: admin | Filed under: Democracy, Free Market, Obama, Revolt |We are told he is the most popular incoming president in modern history. His brilliant rhetoric bridged Right and Left and brought the country the change it desired. So why are people rioting nationwide?
Only one month into his presidency, Barry’s power grabs have sparked widespread protests. George W. Bush saw protestors in his first month as well, but that was to be expected. He failed to capture the popular vote and took office on a tenuous victory.
Obama, on the other hand, is said to have won in a landslide. The One We Have Been Waiting For swept the nation in consummate triumph. The American people delivered a mandate for his agenda, and any detractors are part of an absurd and irrelevant minority.
Of course, Obama’s popularity is and always has been a myth. County maps of the 2008 election results show the vast majority voted for McCain. Obama won 16 fewer states than Ronald Reagan did in 1980, and 18.5% of Americans watched Reagan’s inauguration, 6.1% more than the 12.4% who watched Obama’s inauguration. By any reasonable measure, Obama is not the popular figure the Media would like him to be, and Americans are far from jumping with excitement at his grand, socialist vision.
Consider what happens when a president with dubious support forces his agenda on the people, dismissing his opposition with the arrogant rebuttal, “I won.” Look to George Bush for the answer.
Support for Obama’s agenda is tepid, yet he has done nothing to scale back his plans. He is racing to re-define American government and is mostly ignoring opposition on the way. On the rare occassion he acknowledges a detractor, he does so to deride them: Rush Limbaugh is a loon, Sean Hannity is intolerant, Rick Santelli is out of touch, and Republicans object to him for foolish, “philosophical” reasons.
If he keeps it up, the riots of the Bush years will look like nothing compared to the riots of the Obama years. Just today, thousands of taxpayers are participating in “Tea Parties” across the country to protest Obama’s outrageous spending proposals. Michelle Malkin reports Tea Parties are taking place in Washington DC; New York City; Philadelphia; Jackson, Mississippi; Fayetteville, North Carolina; Atlanta; Chelsea, Alabama; Calera, Alabama; Greenville, South Carolina; Columbia, South Carolina; Tampa, Florida; Orlando, Florida; Ft Myers Beach, Florida; Nashville, Tennessee; Wichita; Kansas City; St. Louis; Chicago; Springfield, Missourri; Tulsa, Oklahoma; Oklahoma City; Cleveland, Ohio; Lansing, Michigan; Houston; Ft Worth; Denver; Phoenix; Portland; Seattle; Sacramento; San Diego; Los Angeles; and the list goes on.
Perhaps next time they are confronted with a radical, baby-killing socialist, white Christians will get out and vote instead of staying home. The riots may have little or no impact on policy, but they are an encouraging indication of anti-Obama sentiment. If the country can survive the next four years, 2012 should be a landslide of Reagan proportions.
